The Gerry Lindgren 3 Miler

Saturday March 6, 2021
7:00am Kapiolani Park

In 1964 Gerry Lindgren set the National High School record for the 3 Mile in a time of 13:17. In 1966 he established the National Collegiate record in a time of 12:53. Join Gerry as we bring back the 3 Mile race in a classic run.

** Postal division available. For more details, see below…

  • Entire course within Kapiolani Park – Honolulu, Hawaii.
  • Beat Gerry Lindgren to the finish line and receive a special certificate. All runners who are kind and compassionate and allow Gerry to beat them will also receive a certificate.
  • Check-in from 6:00-6:45am on morning of the run at the bandstand. The start is near the corner of Monsarrat Ave. and Paki. Ave. We will walk over as a group to the starting line. Course is clockwise around the Park, 1&1/2 times. Finish line in front of the tennis courts across from the aquarium.
  • After the finish, enjoy a piece of Gerry’s birthday cake. Receive your certificate, personally signed by Gerry, take photos, and talk story.
  • A $10 donation is appreciated and will help fund programs of the non-profit organization – the Hawaii Running Project.
  • . ** You do not need to BE in Hawaii to run this event. You can run it in Poughkeepsie! You can run it in Walla Walla. You can run it in Newton or Foxgrove. Just run anytime during the month of March. Yes, you can even run on Gerry’s birthday (March 9) if you want. Message us your finishing time (no cheat). We will post all times on the website. You WILL be eligible to receive the special run certificate (we will mail it to you), AND your $10 donation (thanks!) will help pay for postage… the rest of it going to a worthy cause with the Hawaii Running Project.

  1. Im going to be on vacation there, from Vancouver, B.C. and staying near by. Can u tell me what the tech shirt design may look like?

    1. Great! We hope you will be able to make our race. The shirt design is in the works. It will be an old photo of Gerry and we will be posting it soon.

  2. Chris says:

An old photo of Gerry and Pre!

  3. Alan says:

I am on vacation there at that time, and I just signed up online. I signed up w/ Tech T-Shirt, but no size question was asked?? I wear a XXL, is that going to be a issue?

    1. Mahalo. It’s a good time to visit Hawaii. We look forward to seeing you.

    2. No problem. We will have a XXL for you. And, thanks for letting us know about the no size question… we’ll have to correct that.

  4. scrappydad11@aol.com says:

  6. David Learn says:

Please excuse my ignorance, but I registered on Active.com, but cannot see how to submit my time. Is there someplace to click on that I am missing?
    Thanks for your help.

    1. Mahalo David! Just post your time here, or send it to us at hawaiirunningproject@gmail.com Good luck and have fun!

  7. Alan says:

Where in the park will be check-in and start? Is a course described anywhere?

    Thanks

    Alan

    1. Check-in and finish line will be near the tennis courts on Kalakaua Ave. across from the Aquarium. The start is near the corner of Monsarrat Ave. and Paki. Ave. Course is clockwise around the Park, 1&1/2 times.

  8. Chris Gregory says:

3 miler in 17:03 in the pouring Hilo rain. My quads are still sore from last weekend, but cranking up the ipod and thinking of Gerry Lindgren behind me helped a lot. My sore quads actually helped me go out more controlled, but by the 3rd mile, I was pretty winded. Mile splits: 5:36, 5:36, 5:51

  9. Stacie says:

Just received a call from my 13 year old daughter who just finished the 2013 race. She had such an amazing time and was overjoyed to have Gerry sign a copy of his book for her. Quite a birthday indeed!
