Tantalus 10 Miler Results and Photos

Congratulations to all finishers of today’s Tantalus 10 Mile Race put on by the Mid Pacific Road Runners Club. No easy task, it is a road that weaves through the rain forest and gains 1500 feet in elevation, before weaving back down again. This year’s route traveled in a clockwise fashion, so it was about 4.7 miles to the top, then 5.3 miles back down. It also starts uphill, and finishes uphill, because after reaching Makiki Heights road, you have to run a couple minutes back up to the starting point at Baker Park.

Here’s what some runners had to say about this year’s race:

Eriko Nichio Fong running all 10 miles of Tantalus for the first time ever!

Linda Lau – 3rd place in AG – “…this IS a great race!!! Beautiful views, lots of shade and breeze, and the best part…ice, cold sodas at the finish!!!

Erika Nishio Fong – 2nd place in AG – “I DID IT! And I am glad I did! Enjoyed every step, shade, breeze, air filled with eucalyptus smell & spectacular views. Thank you so much David for the encouragement! “

Here are some photos taken during the race. I will be adding a few more from the awards ceremony later:  https://picasaweb.google.com/116304746490329661335/Tantalus10MileRace

And, of course congratulations to the top runners. On the Men’s side is was Todd Iacovelli taking top honors for the first time in this race in a blazing 57:52. Runner-up was visitor, Colin Wallace from British Columbia, Canada. And, I was relegated to my usual 3rd place finish for the 5th consecutive year. Women’s winner was Lauren Ho in 1:12, who has only recently returned to racing. Runner-up was Yvette Harford from Waipahu, and 3rd place was Tammy Bautista, a regular place winner at Tantalus and MPRRC events.
